Born in Bafoussam, Cameroon, Ebai Derrick is a writer, screenwriter, data analyst, and founder of EyaLingo. His work moves between fiction, cultural memory, language documentation, and the overlooked questions that shape everyday life. Whether he is working through a novel, a screenplay, or an essay, Derrick approaches the page as a place where private experience can meet the larger stories of society.

He leads the EyaLingo Dictionary Project, an initiative dedicated to the lexicographic documentation of African languages and the preservation of indigenous cultures. The project treats language not simply as vocabulary, but as an archive of ways of seeing, remembering, and belonging. This commitment to living archives also informs his creative work, where social change, personal consequence, and imaginative African futures are allowed to speak to one another.

His published work ranges from the novels War After the War Ends, Urun: This Must Be Heaven, and Drive North to reflective nonfiction including What Matters? and The Creative Art of Destruction. He also co-authored Conmanship: Our Glorified Prejudice. Across these forms, his work remains interested in the moral weight of ordinary choices and in the possibility of building a more thoughtful future.
